Forty years after his death, the Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo is dedicating a major retrospective to this exceptional figure that studies and communicates his multifaceted artistic activity. This starts from the story of his architecture, which is a unique and original synthesis of tradition and modernity, history and design, elite culture and everyday life. The catalogue aims to illustrate the many facets of the architectural work of the Milanese artist, selecting projects that concretely illustrate some of the key concepts expressed or evoked by Ponti. Through archival materials, models, photographs, books, magazines and objects, the general public (including designers, the young generations of architects, and lovers of Made in Italy design) will learn about an excellent key figure of Italian architectural production, whose work has left an important mark on several continents. As an architect, designer, art director, writer, poet, critic, Gio Ponti was an all-round artist who lived and worked throughout almost all of the 20th century, profoundly marking the style, while at the same time refl ecting the most significant happenings.
