Eileen Gray (1878-1976), well known for her work in the decorative arts, is increasingly recognized as a ground-breaking modernist architect. This publication compares two houses she designed in the 1920s and 1930s in the south of France and includes a conversation between the author and architectural historians Caroline Constant and Mary McLeod.

The book explores the ways in which both houses, E.1027 and Tempe a Pailla, were designed to facilitate a modern way of life through their architecture, built-in components, and furniture, as illustrated by over 100 new and archival photographs and drawings.
