Fan Mail, Frank Letters, and Crank Calls is one of the rarest titles in the Hanuman series. Indian obscenity laws held up the  publication in customs because it contained a picture of Priapus, a Roman fertility god, which was deemed obscene. Hanuman Books eventually won the obscenity case, and the remaining copies not destroyed by customs officials were successfully shipped to New York.

Founded by Raymond Foye and Francesco Clemente in 1986, Hanuman Books were designed & printed by C.T. Nachiappan of the Kalakshetra Press in Madras (now Chennai), India.
