Maya Deren (1917-1961) was an Ukranian-born American experimental filmmaker of the 1940s and 50s. Divine Horsemen is the anthropological investigation of Voudoun in Haiti with the insight of personal encounter. Deren's filmic tribute, also entitled Divine Horsemen, was released posthumously in 1985, and has been cited as "a valuable resource for learning about the true nature of Voudoun beliefs and practices" (Film News).
