Elegant volume collecting Merce Cunningham's notes for dances in progress. Cunningham writes: "although the notes began as necessary, if inadequate, ways to further choreographic ideas, the use of chance methods demanded some form of visual notation to allow for possibilities." Collaged across the pages in color and black-and-white, the reproductions of the notebooks to emulate the dialectical motions of the choreographer's work.

Erratum insert states that the first 16 pages following the first color section should follow the succeeding 16 pages leading up to the second color section.
