Ballet: 104 Photographs
J. J. Augustin Publisher, New York, 1945 - Oblong 4to, 144pp. Plain boards with cloth spine. Printed French fold dust jacket. 104 b&w gravure reproductions. Text by Edwin Denby. Published in 1945, Alexey Brodovitch's "Ballet" is easily among the most legendary photobooks of the twentieth century. Allegedly printed in a limited edition of 500 copies, it was the first and only photography book Brodovitch ever published. In Very Good condition with significant edgewear and age toning to the dust jacket. The spine has a couple spotted water marks, and the very tip of the crown is eroded. Still, this notoriously fragile dust jacket is in much nicer condition than usually found. There is a faint vertical creasing to the front free endpaper, otherwise, interior pages are crisp and clean with just a bit of typical age toning towards the edges. Binding is tight and hinges are strong. A solid copy.
